"Sin by Silence" premiere PDF Print E-mail

This excellent documentary about the first inmate-initiated and inmate-led support group for battered women will premiere on October 17 on the Investigation Discovery channel at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.  The group has been in existence for over two decades and is responsible for changing the law in California to allow for a woman's abuse history to be considered in adjudicating her case.  Many of the original members have won a new trial and been released.

When is "time served" enough?  Women who kill their abusers spend years trying to survive horrific beatings and in a moment of desperation or in fear of their lives, strike back.  The judicial system has a history of handing down longer sentences to women who kill their batterers than they do to batterers who kill their victims.  The abusive relationships they sought to end continues to entangle them throughout the years of their incarceration.  When is enough, enough?

Don't miss this excellent film!

"I found out that I am not alone; that it is ok to go through the healing process and it is not my fault about the things that happened to me."
