Because we believe that our clients deserve the very best that we have to offer, we recognize the need for experts in the fields of corrections, domestic violence and mental health to help us provide that high level of care.  We are excited about the professionals who serve with us and continue to thoughtfully and intentionally seek out others to join our Council of Advisors.

Tekla Dennison Miller has had many titles in her long career, among them teacher, board member, professor, writer and warden.  She served for many years in the Michigan Department of Corrections and for a time was warden of two prisons simultaneously.  After retirement, she began writing and has published two memoirs as well as two works of fiction, all related to her work in corrections.  Her experiences of abuse as a child as well as exposure to domestic violence have given her a unique perspective on the challenges that incarcerated women face.  Tekla's resume is impressive but it is her heart of compassion that speaks the loudest.  We are thrilled to have her expertise and networking abilities and value the perspectives she brings to our work.   Check out her website as well as her books:  The Warden Wore Pink; A Bowl of Cheeries; Life Sentences; and Inevitable Sentences.

Yvonne DeVaughn worked in the field of Human Resources for the University of California for many years specializing in conflict management, morale improvement and help with clarifying mission and purpose.  She has also devoted much of her personal and professional time to advocacy on behalf of victims of abuse and is currently the Director of the Advocacy for Victims of Abuse in the Evangelical Covenant Church.  Her personal experience as a survivor of long-term childhood sexual abuse lends power and authenticity to her voice on behalf of the abused.  Her work involves educating the faith community both in the ways that religion is often used to abuse but also on the huge resource that it can be for a survivor.  She is a gifted teacher and musician a workshop presenter.  For more information or to order her CD, Quiet Times of Prayer and Praise, visit her website.
